Gyles, 74, opened up about the first time he met the Queen, 96, while he was studying at university, with Her Majesty coming to visit the student’s union.

The former MP sat in a vast room, which was decorated with off white walls and a regal red carpet.

Two large white columns could be seen joining the floor to the ceiling in the background, creating a cove where beautiful ornaments were displayed.

Speaking to Holly and Phil in the room, Gyles said: “I was very lucky, I was at university, she came to visit the union, the student’s union. I was there and I was presented to her, and it was raining. I thought it was very bad that she was being made to carry her own umbrella.”

Gyles went on to explain how someone then told him that she likes to carry her own umbrella, as when others hold it for her the rain “tricckles down her”.

Celebrity chef Phil Vickery was next guest to join Holly and Phil as they discussed all things royal, and he soon headed into the palace kitchens for a rare look around.

He then met the Royal Household’s Head Chef, Chris Tombling, who gave an insight into the preparations for the Queen’s garden party, where around 24,000 guests all head to the palace for the day.

The team make 20,000 sandwiches, 26,000 cups of tea, plus 20,000 cakes including scones, and speaking about how they prepare the sandwiches, Phil said: “They even take off the corners – 20,000 sandwiches!”
